NSF Research Security Training Requirement (Effective December 2)

November 26, 2025

As a reminder, the National Science Foundation’s updated Research Security Training requirement goes into effect on December 2, 2025. Beginning on this date, all Key Personnel listed at the proposal stage must have completed the NSF Research Security Training. This training must be renewed annually.

What You Need to Do
Key Personnel should verify completion of the required training prior to proposal submission. Departments and PIs should confirm compliance by checking the “Training and Certifications” tab under the specific Key Personnel in Cayuse SP. Directions for this can be found here.

Where to Find Information
We encourage all Research Administrators and PIs to review the guidance and resources below:

  • NSF Official Notice (Important Notice No. 149 – Updates to NSF Research Security Requirements)

  • DCG Guidance: Research Security Training Now Integrated with Cayuse SP

  • DCG Guidance: NSF Research Security Policy Updates – Effective October 10, 2025

These links provide additional information on the requirement, how Cayuse SP displays training status for Key Personnel, and relevant policy details for compliance.
