Important Update – Three New USC Research Policies Now in Effect

December 9, 2025

*** Please see the below update from the USC Office of Ethics and Compliance ***

Dear Colleagues,

Three new policies have been published relating to research conducted at USC:

Research Compliance Policy

This policy ensures that all USC research is conducted ethically and in full compliance with institutional and regulatory standards by requiring faculty, staff, students, and affiliated personnel to follow the USC Guide to Research.

Effort Reporting Policy

This policy requires USC employees to accurately propose, charge, and certify effort on sponsored projects to ensure salary charges reflect actual work and comply with federal requirements. For additional information on Effort Reporting, including the Effort Reporting calendar and FAQs, please visit this link.

Sponsored Research Cost Transfers

This policy establishes when cost transfers on sponsored projects are allowable, requiring that any reallocation be timely, justified, and compliant with federal and institutional standards.

Questions?
Please feel free to reach out to the USC Office of Ethics and Compliance if you have any questions.
