Effective October 1, 2025 (start of FY2026), NIH will no longer post Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. Instead, Grants.gov will serve as the sole official source for NIH grant and cooperative agreement funding opportunities. The NIH Guide will continue to publish policy and informational notices only.
Why This Matters
Faculty and administrators who have relied on the NIH Guide to locate or subscribe to funding opportunities will need to adjust their practices. Beginning in FY2026, all searches, notifications, and workflows related to NIH NOFOs must shift to Grants.gov to ensure continued awareness of and access to funding opportunities.
Key Details & Resources
This change takes effect October 1, 2025. At that point, NIH NOFOs will no longer appear in the NIH Guide or in its weekly Table of Contents subscription emails. Instead, all active and expired opportunities will be searchable exclusively on Grants.gov, which offers both a Classic and a new Simpler search tool. NIH will continue to provide search tools within the Funding section of the NIH Grants & Funding website, but any funding opportunities identified there will link directly to Grants.gov for the official posting.
Additional details are available in NIH Notice NOT-OD-25-143.
Action Steps for Faculty / Research Administrators
Faculty and administrators should update bookmarks and workflows to ensure Grants.gov is the primary and only source for NIH NOFOs. Users are strongly encouraged to set up Grants.gov subscription alerts to replace NIH Guide email notifications. Departments should also review and update any internal guidance, training materials, or communications that currently reference the NIH Guide as a funding source.
