As directed under the Executive Order (EO) on Restoring Gold Standard Science and Agency Guidance for Implementing Gold Standard Science in the Conduct and Management of Scientific Activities, The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced the release of its first comprehensive plan to embed gold standard science across all research and agency activities. This initiative builds on NIH’s longstanding commitment to scientific integrity and aligns with the Department of Health and Human Services’ framework for achieving excellence in research.

The new implementation plan highlights NIH’s progress to date and establishes a forward-looking roadmap grounded in the nine interlocking tenets of gold standard science:
Why This Matters
NIH’s leadership underscores that gold standard science is “embedded in everything we do, from the research we support to the policies and programs we create.” The plan includes expanded training for researchers, stronger data-sharing requirements, new mechanisms to support reproducibility and replication studies, and policies to strengthen public trust in federally funded science.
