Welcome back to MicroLearning Mondays, our biweekly series of bite-sized research administration trainings brought to you by the Department of Contracts and Grants.
This week’s topic: Navigating Award Closeout
Why It Matters: Award closeout is the final step in the life of a sponsored project and it’s more than just tying up loose ends. Proper closeout ensures that all financial, technical, and administrative obligations have been met, protecting USC’s reputation and preventing potential audit findings, payment delays, or loss of future funding. Federal regulations require timely submission of final reports. Missing these deadlines can lead to returned funds or compliance issues. A well-executed closeout also provides a clear record of accomplishments and sets the stage for future funding opportunities.
In This Video, You’ll Learn:
- The key documents and reports required for award closeout.
- Common pitfalls that delay closeout and how to avoid them.
- Roles and responsibilities of PIs, DCG Officers, and other stakeholders.
- Best practices for starting closeout preparations before the project ends.
