MicroLearning Monday! – Determining Activity Types

April 21, 2025

Welcome back to MicroLearning Mondays, our biweekly series of bite-sized research administration trainings brought to you by the Department of Contracts and Grants.

This week’s topic: Determining Activity Types

Why It Matters:
Identifying and categorizing the type of activity your PI’s proposal supports is vital. Whether it’s research, instruction, equipment, or fellowships, choosing the correct activity type isn’t just a formality—it drives how your proposal is reviewed, how costs are allocated, and what institutional policies apply. A misclassified activity can delay processing or lead to compliance issues down the road.

In This Video, You’ll Learn:

  • How to determine the correct activity type during proposal development.
  • Why differentiating activity types is vital in proposal preparation.
  • Common activity type categories and what distinguishes them.
