Other Opportunities of Note

  • The recent devastation of healthcare systems by destructive hurricanes has underscored the urgent mission of HHS’s KidneyX Sustainability Prize: We need to identify new ways to reduce water or power used during dialysis, addressing the kidney care system’s vulnerability during natural disasters. This $7.25 million funding opportunity presents a unique chance for cross-disciplinary collaboration among researchers in fields such as nephrology, biomedical engineering, environmental science, and beyond.
    • Learn more: Review the September 25 info session recording.
    • Register your team: Set up an account so you can review the submission form and submit as soon as your proposal is ready.
    • Submissions are due by October 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

  • The Simons Foundation’s Autism & Neuroscience division is pleased to announce that the Fellows-to-Faculty Award request for applications (RFA) is now open. This award is a new iteration of the previously offered Simons Foundation Independence Awards.
    • The Fellows-to-Faculty Award program supports talented early-career scientists and their research vision as they transition into tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions.
    • For the 2025 RFA, we are accepting applications through:
      • Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI)
      • Simons Collaboration on Plasticity and the Aging Brain (SCPAB)
    • The RFA is intended for senior postdoctoral scholars or equivalent researchers whose backgrounds and experiences are underrepresented in science. Prospective applicants are encouraged to review SFARI scientific perspectives and SCPAB’s mission before applying. We welcome applications from scientists with a previous background in these areas and those newly applying their expertise to these areas.
    • Awardees receive funding toward the end of their postdoctoral career and a commitment of a $600,000 USD faculty research grant. Fellows may activate the award funding at institutions within or outside the United States.
    • The deadline for application submission is Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. (noon) ET. Detailed information and application instructions are available here.

If you are interested in renewing an existing limited submission grant, please contact RII as soon as possible by writing to rii@usc.edu.

Also, if you see a limited submission on rii@usc.edu that you wish to submit to, but the internal deadline says “Contact RII,” reach out to rii@usc.edu to submit, as a slot is still available for the call.

Best,
