New Nominations

New Limited Submissions
- Please find below seven limited submissions, four of which are time-sensitive, for your perusal and distribution. Links to each opportunity are below:

- Process for Limited Submissions: PIs must submit their application as a Limited Submission through the Research Initiatives and Infrastructure Application Portal: https://rii.usc.edu/oor-portal/. PIs must create their own SurveyMonkey account in order to proceed with submission.
- Materials to submit include:
- (1) Two-Page Proposal Summary (1” margins; single-spaced; font type: Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman, or Georgia typeface; font size: 11 pt). Page limit includes references and illustrations. Pages that exceed the 2-page limit will be excluded from review.
- (2) CV – (5 pages maximum)
- Note: The portal requires information about the PIs in addition to department and contact information, including the 10-digit USC ID#, Gender, and Ethnicity. Please have this material prepared before beginning this application.
Other Opportunities of Note:
- Simons Collaborations in Mathematics and the Physical Sciences
- Funder: Simons Foundation
- Grant amount: Up to $2M per year for 4 years, including IDC. The scientific impact of the collaboration will be evaluated at the year-four annual meeting, and an extension of three additional years may be granted.
- Purpose: To stimulate progress on fundamental scientific questions of major importance in mathematics, theoretical physics, and theoretical computer science.
- Eligibility: The collaboration director must hold a tenured faculty position. PIs and co-investigators (co-Is) must hold a tenured or tenure-track faculty position. PIs, co-Is, and other collaboration participants may be from non-U.S. institutions.

- GitLab Foundation: AI for Economic Opportunity
- There are up to 3 slots available per School within the University. As such, RII will let each School coordinate their own 3 nominations for this opportunity.
- Building on the success of their inaugural year, the GitLab Foundation is thrilled to announce the continuation and expansion of the AI for Economic Opportunity Fund with a second round of funding focused on demonstration and scaling.
- This initiative represents a partnership between the GitLab Foundation, Ballmer Group, and OpenAI, demonstrating our collective commitment to leveraging emerging AI technologies to create economic opportunity and drive income growth.

- Hertz Foundation 2025 Hertz Fellowship.
- The fellowship includes up to five years of funding, valued at up to $250,000, and the freedom to pursue innovative projects wherever they may lead. In addition, fellows take part in ongoing mentoring, symposia, and workshops with our vibrant community of more than 1200 fellows, a set of peers who span disciplines, generations, and geography.
- All eligible applicants must:
- be college seniors, first-year graduate students, or in a gap period preparing to apply to graduate school;
- intend to pursue a PhD in the applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, or engineering;
- intend to direct their studies toward understanding and solving major, near-term problems facing society; and
- be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

- The Southern California Children’s Environmental Health Research Translation Center is seeking applications for 1-year pilot projects (up to $80,000), focused on translating research related to Urbanism, Air Pollution, Climate Change, Children’s Health, and Environmental Justice. Projects of interest involve novel approaches to understanding health hazards in children’s environments, to promoting behavior change, and community and policy engagement. Interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged, particularly from fields under-represented in children’s environmental health research and translation, such as the arts, humanities, social sciences, architecture, engineering, and communications, as well as health sciences.
