To ensure compliance with federal research security requirements under the CHIPS and Science Act, USC is requiring all Key Personnel on federally sponsored research proposals and awards to complete Research Security Training. Because federal agencies have implemented these requirements on different timelines and through varying policies, solicitations, and award terms, USC is adopting a consistent, university-wide approach across all federal sponsors. This requirement is already in place for NIH, NSF, DOE, NASA, USDA, and certain Department of Defense awards.
Additional information is available on the Department of Contracts and Grants Research Security Training Website.
Who needs to complete training?
Effective August 1st, all USC Key Personnel named on ALL federally funded research projects must complete Research Security Training annually. DCG will verify training completion prior to proposal submission and award setup. Please note, this training is only required for Key Personnel on sponsored awards and does not apply to services awards/contracts or gift funding.
Action Required for USC Faculty and Research Administrators
Please complete the required Research Security Training in TrojanLearn by August 1st if you:
Are currently designated as Senior/Key Personnel on a federally funded award; or
Expect to be designated as Senior/Key Personnel on a proposal submitted to a federal sponsor; or
Join a federally funded award as Senior/Key Personnel at any point during the life of an award.
How can I confirm training is up to date?
Departments and PIs can confirm compliance by reviewing the “Training and Certifications” tab for each Key Personnel record in Cayuse SP. Please note that training must be renewed every 12 months to remain compliant.
